Inside this 100 page, large format coffee table book, you will find a collection of water colors, painted by Jackie Lubeck ‘documenting’ the atrocious war that is now destroying the Gaza Strip and many of the people who live there. There is no arguing with these paintings! Page by page, in brilliantly grim colors and miserable humor, they illustrate the events that took place in Gaza. The paintings ‘show’ the Shifa Hospital under fire, the markets of Gaza, the tunnels exploding, the tents growing, the men and women endlessly walking, the cars and trucks, the streets, the children.
With an introduction on how the book came into being, and informative titles and explanations of the paintings, the book is both conversion piece and silent statement.
– In 1994, Jan Willems and Jackie Lubeck set up the youth theatre company Theatre Day Productions. Their program of bringing theatre, drama, and creativity to Palestinian school students began in the Gaza Strip.
